Fresh Today: A Hand-Painted Script Font for Campaign Design

Picture this: I’m sitting at my desk, coffee in hand, finalizing a seasonal sale graphic for a small boutique brand. The creative brief calls for something lively, approachable, and just a little bit raw—the kind of energy you’d see on a fruit stand sign at a Saturday market. That’s exactly when I pulled up Fresh Today from Script Amp.

The font landed in my workflow for a reason. I needed a typeface that could stop a scroll without feeling overly polished. Fresh Today is a script font with a handmade soul. Its letterforms are uneven in the best way—like they were painted by hand in a hurry, but with intention. It carries the vibe of festival posters, chalkboard specials, and event announcements that demand attention. For a campaign designer who works across Instagram, Pinterest, and email, this is a valuable asset.

Campaign Moment: Building a Product Teaser Graphic

Let’s walk through a real scenario. I was designing a teaser for an online course launch. The client wanted a fun, “limited spots available” feel. I needed a headline that felt urgent but friendly. After testing a few fonts from the Script Amp library, Fresh Today stood out.

I placed the headline “Last Call – Enroll Now” in the center of a bold yellow background. The handwritten strokes added a human touch—something a sterile sans-serif couldn’t deliver. The ligatures and alternates gave the text a natural rhythm. I used the default characters for “Last Call” and swapped in an alternate “n” for “Now” to break up the repetition. It took seconds, but the effect was noticeable. The graphic felt like a sign held by a person, not a machine.

I also tested the same headline on a dark background with white text. Fresh Today held its ground. The thick strokes and open counters kept the message legible even at small sizes. For a product teaser that appears in Instagram Stories and email previews, that’s critical.

The Visual Style of Fresh Today

So what exactly is Fresh Today? It’s a display script font inspired by hand-painted signs—the kind you see outside a fruit stand or on a music festival poster. The letters are upright with a slight bounce. They feel painted, not typed. The mood is energetic, youthful, and slightly nostalgic.

As a script font, it doesn’t try to be elegant. Instead, it leans into imperfection. The edges are rough. The thickness varies between letters. That’s its strength. In a world of predictable sans-serifs, Fresh Today feels like a breath of fresh air. It communicates quickly: “This is fun. This is now. This is a deal you don’t want to miss.”

For marketing designers, that emotional shorthand is gold. It works for short headlines, callouts, and logo-style text. But it’s not a workhorse for body copy. You wouldn’t set a paragraph of product description in it. The charm fades when stretched across long sentences. Save it for moments that need a punch.

Where Fresh Today Shines in Campaigns

I’ve used Fresh Today across several campaign types. Here’s where it performed best:

In each case, Fresh Today acted as a display font. It commanded attention. But I never used it for supporting copy. That’s where readability can break down, especially on mobile.

Readability and Digital Visibility

Let’s talk about mobile screens and fast-scrolling feeds. Fresh Today is readable, but with conditions. The font’s organic shape means some letter combinations can feel tight. In the preview, I noticed that “rn” together can look like “m” in some contexts. That’s typical for script fonts. To avoid confusion, I recommend increasing letter spacing slightly when using all-caps or dense words.

On dark backgrounds, the font holds up well. The thick strokes create a solid silhouette. On bright or patterned backgrounds, test contrast. I found that a semi-transparent overlay behind the text helps. For example, a white text on a sunset photo became muddy until I added a dark gradient strip.

Fresh Today is not suited for tiny text. Below 18px, the details blur. I avoid it for captions, disclaimers, or body copy. It’s a display font by design. Keep it above 24px for headlines and 36px+ for hero text. Also, avoid using it for long strings—three to five words max. That preserves its impact.

Font Pairing and System Integration

Like any good display font, Fresh Today works best with a partner. I paired it with a clean sans-serif like Montserrat or Open Sans for body text. The contrast between the hand-painted script and the geometric sans creates a clear visual hierarchy. For a more editorial feel, a serif like Playfair Display also works, but keep the serif to short sentences.

If you want a cohesive system, consider using Fresh Today as the hero font in your brand graphics and a simple sans for everything else. I’ve seen it work beautifully in a “Recipe of the Week” Instagram series: the title in Fresh Today, the ingredients in a classic sans. The font communicates personality while the supporting type ensures readability.

From a technical side, Fresh Today comes with alternate characters and ligatures. I made sure to test them in my design software. The alternates give flexibility—you can avoid repeating the same letterform in consecutive words. The ligatures help some letter pairs flow better. For example, “Th” and “sh” have natural connections that prevent gaps.

Licensing and Practical Considerations

Before rolling out Fresh Today in client campaigns, I checked the licensing. As a commercial font from Script Amp, you’ll want to confirm it covers your use case: social media graphics, templates, merchandise, digital ads, and web use. Some script fonts have restrictions on embedding in apps or selling printed products. Fresh Today offers a standard license that covers most digital and print applications, but always read the fine print.

File formats include OTF and TTF. I installed both and found they work across Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, and Figma. The font also supports basic Latin characters, so it’s fine for English and several Western European languages. If you need multilingual support, check the character set. For my client, the extended punctuation helped with French text in email headers.

Finally, I recommend downloading the font and testing it in a mockup before committing to a full campaign. Try it on a bright background, a photo overlay, and a small preview. Adjust tracking and size as needed. Fresh Today is a tool for impact—use it where you need a voice that sounds human, immediate, and honest.
